  • I bought this program to get into the habit of working out, since I already walk a lot. My first day I walked over 10,000 steps between work and my community theater activities after work. (Although I discovered riding the bus to work added 100 steps, so I deducted those...) So I started exercising while watching the FitHeads DVD. I'm only on Day 6, so we'll see...

  • Just read about a study linking sleep to weight loss. Basically - sleep 7+ hours/night and lose weight, less than 7 - gain weight. Article on study here: http://www.theinsomniablog.com/the_insomnia_blog/2010/05/sleep-it-off.html

Among the many health benefits, regular walking improves sleep length and quality. Double whammy benefit on weight.

  • Hi Diane. I have a desk job too and have been doing 10000 a day for almost a year now. Took me a while to get there but that's not important. The important thing is just to make a little progress each day.

There are lots of things you can do at the office. Like park at the far end of the parking lot. walk to someones office to talk to them instead of phoning. I set an hourly reminder on my Outlook calendar and make a circuit around my floor when it goes off. I can't always do it but I do it enough it makes a HUGE difference - about 2000 steps a day on average.

I've got to go now but I'll come back later and post more ideas. There's a boatload of things you can do. I found the real trick is getting your mind to look for chances to "take a few more stpes" as they say.

Stick with this. You WILL do it.

  • A good anti-blister trick is to wear your socks inside out so the seams don't rub on your toes.
